Project Profile: Internal Revenue Service Files Activities

MAI assisted the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) in the transition to, and implementation of, a contract resulting from an A-76 study of the Files Activity. The Files Activity included approximately 1,500 FTE at ten locations across the country. The Files locations are used to organize and store the millions of individual and business paper returns, and the study looked at the requirements for obtaining and delivering tax documents from the storage facilities. MAI assisted the IRS both pre- and post-decision with planning and analysis of potential needs and issues. Implementation support included assisting the Files Activity Implementation Team and the Government Program Management Office (GPMO). Implementation Team support provided by MAI included developing and maintaining a master schedule of implementation activities, composing various position papers and status reports for submittal by the Implementation Team to IRS executives, and providing guidance on implementation issues. GPMO work included preparing position descriptions, recommending organizational alignment for the office, and providing guidance in quality assurance. The IRS successfully completed the transition to the private sector contractor in October 2007.
